To get started, click “Customize Page” (top right), then “Skin Builder” (last icon).  Once in the skin builder, click the “Text” tab.

Enter your text, then click the “Add text” button to add it to your page.

To change the color, size, and font-family of the text, click on the text and a new section should appear on the “Add text” window.

To reposition the text on your skin, click and drag it to where you want it displayed.

If you share your computer or StartSkins URL with other people, privacy settings will help control what these people can see and edit.

To become a member, click the “Login” or “Privacy Settings” link at the bottom right of your page, then click “Register”.

Also, we’re currently working on a feature that will allow you to add text to your page and style it any way you want.  This should be ready early next week.

Bugs Fixed:

• The skin builder doesn’t get cut off, a scroll bar will now show if needed.
• The bug with the manage images window in IE has been fixed.

Other Changes:

• The skin builder has been updated with options for editing the top links and bottom links.

To hide the logos, navigate to the theme builder (customize page > theme builder), then click the “Search” tab.  Once there, check the check box next to “Hide Search Engine Logo”.

That’s it, you’re done.

We’re also in the process of releasing another feature.  This feature will allow you to move the search box anywhere on your page.

Other Recent Updates:
-A “help” link was added to the image manager – this will show all of the features available, and how to use them.
-Fixed a bug for Internet Explorer users which caused skins not to show in the skins gallery.
-In Internet Explorer, you now must have the manage images window open in order to move & modify images.

How StartSkins Works
With StartSkins, you design your startpage exactly the way you want it.  Select a skin, or design your own!  Add links, choose your search engines, and more!  When you’re done, you can set your new and improved startpage as your browser’s homepage.  Now every time you open your browser,  you’ll be greeted by your customized startpage that you can update any time you want!

What does StartSkins offer?

Skins
A skin is a combination of a background image and colors used to customize your homepage.  Browse our gallery and choose from a wide variety of our skins, or upload a background image and design your own!  We provide a convenient live preview in our theme builder so that you can see how your changes look as you make them.

Manage Links
Have sites you visit often?  Add them to your links section.  The links will be displayed under your search box making navigating to the sites you want to get to quicker and easier.

Search Engine Settings
Maybe you prefer Google for searching the web, and Bing searching images?  Don’t restrict yourself to 1 single search engine, with StartSkins you can have multiple search engines!  Simply navigate to the Settings area and select which search engines you want to use by default (ex: Web – Google, Images – Bing, News – CNN, Videos – YouTube) – The choice is yours!
